People sometimes wonder what it means to be a Christian. A good question, surrounded right now with a lot of confusion.
It's not going to a church, anymore than going to a garage makes you a car, as the saying goes.
It's not being born in America. God is not an American. (It's actually blasphemous to so limit Him.)
It's not how you were raised. As another saying goes, God doesn't have any grandchildren, only children - His children are all directly related to Him, not indirectly through their parents.
Years ago I was taught the Roman Road - maybe that should be the Romans Road, since all the verses are from the Book of Romans in the Bible. As a simple summary, I don't think many could object to this explanation of what it means to be a Christian. It's all the Apostle Paul's words (inspired by the Holy Spirit) in his letter to the early Christians in Rome.
I urge you to consider this carefully. Nothing you ever do will be as important as considering what to do with Jesus.
The Roman Road
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
(3:23)
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(6:23)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
(5:8)
That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
(10:9,10)
I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual ((or rational)) service of worship.
(12:1)
All quotations from NASB.
Perhaps you still have questions. If you can't find a good Bible-teaching church near you and someone there to answer your questions, maybe I can answer them. Drop me a note.
